Chem Fuego Strain, Sour-Band x Chemdog 91 Bx3, from Lucky Dog Seed Co

Chem Fuego opens deep sour and earthy, followed by a balanced sweetness. It coats the mouth properly. The high can be jolting but relaxing to the body.

The cross

Sour-Band x Chemdog 91 Bx3.

The mother is Sour-Band, a Sour Diesel and Headband cross. She is a fast finisher, she peaks at day 42 in my garden.

The father side is my Chemdog 91, held since 1995, backcrossed three times.

There is OG in her

Headband carries OG Kush. That is where the OG comes from.

Past that the histories get messy. Headband has been credited to more than one breeder and sold under more than one name. OG Kush started from bag seed and nobody’s ever settled its parentage.

I keep the Headband cut myself and I still call it what it was called when it reached me. I’ll tell you what I crossed and what I have. The rest of it I leave alone.

The Sour Diesel story, as it gets told

There’s a story attached to the Sour Diesel side. I’ll tell it the way people tell it rather than pretend I was standing there.

As the legend goes, the Sour came out of the Chemdog line by accident, a chance pollination nobody planned, in a room on the East Coast in the early nineties. People say the plant that came out of it went on to become the Diesel everybody knows.

You’ll hear it told more than one way and the versions never quite line up. That happens with every legendary plant. I wasn’t there for any of it.

What I can tell you is what I crossed and what I have.

How she grows

Beginner-friendly. Vigorous and roots easily from clone.

Flowering varies. The mother peaks at day 42. The offspring don’t all take after her, growers have brought packs in anywhere from around 6 weeks to 10. Look for the early finishers.

Yield is average, as dense resinous flower rather than weight. Growers running her on a screen have reported more.

13 regular seeds.

A grower’s run

One grower ran her topped and scrogged and posted the whole thing. Stretch in weeks two and three. About five and a half feet by the end of week four. Weeks five through seven the colas tripled and pushed spears a foot above the net. He took her to seventy days and called the yield high.

His notes on the nose and flavor: pine, lemon and skunk, “greezy like the old school sour D from back in the day”, and “sour that stains and coats the nostrils. Whole joint maintains consistent flavor till the end.”

On the high:

“Really reminds me of the first time I smoked headband back in the day with the cerebral forehead vibe. After the pure high feeling come down no crash after 45 minutes but more body high and relaxing…”

Indica or sativa

Hybrid. Cerebral first, then it settles into the body. I’d rather tell you that than hand you a percentage.

Further back

The Headband in this cross is a plant I keep, available on her own, the cut exactly as it came to me, under the name it arrived with. Chemdog 91 is the cut everything here is built on.

The other cross I have written up is Dog Patch, Chem D over the Chemdog 91 Bx2. Same stud line, a very different mother, and a very different smell.

Every cross on the Chemdog seeds page runs back to the same Chemdog 91 Bx3 stud.

The lineage behind every cross here, Chem D and Chemdog 91 side by side, is on the Chem D vs Chemdog 91 page.
