Catahoula Strain, Triangle Kush x Chemdog 91 Bx3, from Lucky Dog Seed Co

Catahoula is the easy one. Most of my packs are hunting packs, built so you can dig for a keeper. This one is not. Triangle Kush to the Chemdog 91 Bx3 stud gives you big, vigorous, forgiving plants with bulky flowers, and the flowers came out bigger than either parent. That surprised me.

Why I put the stud to Triangle Kush

Triangle Kush x Chemdog 91 Bx3.

I made it because I wanted to see what the Chemdog 91 Bx3 stud would do to a very unique plant. Triangle Kush is one of the most unique Kushes there is. It is a very robust plant, and it passes its traits along more generously than most elite cuts do.

Kush on Chem has been done a thousand times and most of those crosses lean one way. This one holds its balance. The pine and earth of the Triangle sit alongside the stud’s fuel instead of underneath it.

Catahoula came out of my 2021 round, the same season as Goji Dog, Chem Brand, Diesel Therapy, Chemnesia and Old Yogo.

Where Triangle Kush comes from

Triangle Kush is a famous Florida clone, and the one everybody agrees on is that it is from Florida and it has been passed hand to hand since the 1990s. The name points at the Jacksonville, Miami, Tampa growing triangle, not California’s Emerald Triangle.

Past that, the story gets argued. The account most often repeated comes from Marty “TK” Calabrese, who says a Hindu Kush male he brought back from Amsterdam dropped pollen on a room of Florida “Emerald Triangle” females in South Florida in the early 1990s, and Triangle Kush came out of those seeds. Many growers also call Triangle Kush the closest living relative of the original OG Kush, which left Florida for California around 1996. Whether she is OG Kush’s parent, sister or the same plant under another name is a fight I am staying out of. What I can tell you is what she does in my room.

How she grows

This is the one to grow if you are new to the Chem family. No delicate feeding schedule, no fragile phenos to nurse, no narrow window where everything has to go right.

Big and vigorous. That is the Triangle Kush in her, with the Bx3 stud adding structure and resin. Give her space, because she will use whatever you give her.

The flowers are bigger than either parent. That is the part I did not expect. The Triangle Kush mother and the Bx3 stud both throw good flowers, and Catahoula outgrew them both.

Flowering: 56 to 63 days. Comfortably inside a normal cycle.

Yield is heavy.

13 regular seeds. On a line this consistent that is a straightforward run, not a hunt. Germination is on the paper towel method page.

Smell and taste

Sour first, then earth, then pine running underneath the whole thing. A clean profile, the kind where you can name what you are tasting. The Bx3 stud thickens the back end with fuel without muddying the Triangle’s clarity, which is the whole reason the pairing works.

What she does

Happy and inspirational, the Triangle’s signature and the reason she has stayed in circulation this long. Daytime, not flattening. A lift that leaves you able to do something with it. Satisfying to smoke in the plain sense, which after enough exotic crosses is worth saying out loud.

What you’ll read elsewhere

Triangle Kush has pages everywhere and they do not agree with each other about where she came from. Catahoula has far fewer, and some of those list a flowering time or a flavor that is not what comes out of my room. The seeds come from me.
