Genetics & Lineage, what is actually known

The lineage most often reported is Strawberry Fields crossed to Haze. It is worth being straight about the status of that: it is the widely repeated account, not a documented one. The original breeder is unknown. The plant is generally traced to a grower in Connecticut, and from there to New York, where Kyle Kushman was given the clone in the early 2000s.

Kushman is the name attached to Strawberry Cough, and his contribution was real, he took it to California, worked out how to grow it properly, and made it famous. But he did not breed it, and he has never claimed to. Anyone selling you a confirmed pedigree on this plant is telling you more than the record supports. We would rather say plainly what is known and what is not: reputed Strawberry Fields x Haze, breeder unknown, clone-only since the beginning.

Aroma, Flavor & Terpene Profile

Fresh strawberry, and unusually literal about it, this is not a vague sweetness that someone decided to call fruit. It arrives as actual berry over a sharp, skunky base, with a sweet-earth undertone underneath. The name’s other half is earned too: the smoke is expansive and will find the back of your throat if you take it greedily. That cough is the strain’s signature, not a defect.

Effects & Experience

Clear-headed and euphoric, sativa-leaning, and social rather than introspective. It is a daytime cut, the kind you can smoke and still be useful afterwards, which is a large part of why it survived the twenty-odd years since it left Connecticut while flashier plants disappeared.

Cultivation Insights

Hardy and forgiving for a sativa-leaning plant, which is the other reason it has lasted, it does not demand a specialist to get a decent result. Expect the stretch and the open, elongated structure the Haze side implies, so give it vertical room and train it early if your space is fixed. As a clone there is no phenotype variation to hunt: every cutting is the same plant, and what you see in one run is what you get in the next.
