Western Star came out of a project that failed. In the early 2000s Skunk VA set out to build a Sour Diesel backcross line, and it went sideways, as, in his words, most breeding projects tend to do. The Bx2 progeny was tested and shelved. But one male out of that shelved work caught his eye, and this pack is what that male eventually produced. A powerhouse of fuel salvaged from a line that otherwise ended there.

Genetics & Lineage

Read the cross carefully, because it is unusual: (Chemdog 91 × Sour Diesel Bx2) × Chemdog 91 Bx2. The Chemdog 91 appears on both sides. That makes Western Star the most Chem-dominant seed line in the Lucky Dog Seed Co catalog, Sour Diesel is present as a layer rather than as an equal partner, and the fuel character you get is Chem fuel with diesel sharpness cut through it, not a fifty-fifty blend.

The male that made it possible was applied to Chemdog 91 among others before the backcross work stopped for good. A female was selected from that pairing and used here. That is the entire provenance, no rediscovered legend, no acquired elite clone, just a breeder keeping the one thing worth keeping out of several years of work that did not pan out. Lines like this do not exist in more than one place, because nobody else has the shelved material.

Aroma, Flavor & Terpene Profile

The aroma is sour electric chem, that specific bright, almost metallic sourness that sits on top of Chem gas rather than replacing it. The flavor brings a sharp diesel layer that arrives on the exhale, and in the breeder’s own account it is mouth-watering in the literal sense. Sour on the nose, diesel on the way out.

Effects & Experience

His summary is better than anything a description could improve on: a cocktail happy hour in a joint. Happy, uplifting, social, the effect profile you reach for when the point is company rather than the couch. Fuel-forward genetics do not always land this way, which is part of why this particular female was the one selected.

Cultivation Insights

Flowering runs 56–63 days (8–9 weeks), a standard window that makes this an easy line to slot into an existing rotation. With Chemdog 91 on both sides of the cross, expect the structural consistency the 91 is relied on for, this is a more predictable grow than a wide outcross, because there is simply less genetic distance between the parents. Each pack holds 13 regular seeds. Given how Chem-dominant the line is, the phenotypes you find will vary in expression more than in vigor, so select on nose and finish rather than on structure.

Is Western Star hard to grow?

No. She is easy to grow. All of my genetics are easy to cultivate with vigorous growth.
