Chem D – Clone Only

$300.00

In 1991, ‘G’ aka ‘Chemdog’, bought an ounce of Dogbud from two guys in the parking lot of a Grateful Dead show at Deer Creek, Indiana. That meeting was the start of it. They swapped contacts, and more flower was sent to him from Colorado after that. Thirteen seeds were found in that lot. Those seeds became the genetic backbone of modern American cannabis.

Chem D came out of that same batch of thirteen seeds. Where Chem 91 runs skunky and lemony, Chem D goes in a different direction entirely, rubbery, chemical, raunchy funk that serious collectors either love immediately or need a minute to appreciate. Slightly more indica-leaning than her sisters, thicker branching, better yield, and resin production that made her the go-to parent for a generation of breeders chasing gas. If you’ve smoked anything with serious chemical funk in the last twenty years such as GMO,  there’s a good chance Chem D is somewhere in the family tree.

I flew to New York in 2006, traded Greg a couple of Chemdog 91 clones, and came home with this. She has been in my garden since. Clone only. Limited availability.

Growing the Chem D Cut

Because this is a clone rather than a seed pack, there is no phenotype hunt and no variation to select through, every plant is the same plant, the one that came home from New York in 2006. What she brings structurally is a little more indica lean than her sisters, noticeably thicker branching, and the heavy resin production that made her the parent breeders reached for when they wanted gas. The branching is worth planning around: she builds a sturdier frame than most Chem-family plants and will hold weight without much support.

Chem D in Seed Form

Looking for Chemdog D genetics you can hunt through yourself rather than a rooted clone? Dog Patch is Chem ‘D’ crossed back to the Chemdog 91 Bx2, the two sisters from that 1991 batch brought back together, and it is the only seed line in the Lucky Dog Seed Co catalog carrying her. Thirteen regular seeds per pack, and the same funk running underneath.

Notes from Skunk VA

People mix these two up constantly, so let me be clear about it, Chem D and Chem 91 are sisters, not the same plant. Same batch of thirteen seeds that came out of that Deer Creek meeting in ’91, and they went in completely different directions. The 91 runs skunky and lemony. Chem D goes rubbery and chemical, kind of raunchy. You either love that right away or you need a minute with it.

She’s been in my garden since I carried her home from New York in 2006.

The full story of Chem D, where the thirteen seeds came from, and how she differs from Chem 91.

Difficulty and yield

Beginner-friendly. There is not much to get wrong with her.

Yield is better than her sisters. Thicker branching and heavier resin.

Flowering time: 63 to 70 days.

What does Chem D smoke like

Effects are potent and euphoric, on a base of pungent chemical fuel and sharp diesel. It is the raunchy end of the Chem family rather than the clean end.

Your clone is guaranteed through transit and a reasonable recovery time. If she doesn't make it, I replace her. Nothing to worry about.
