Chemdog, Not “Chemdawg”: We Never Change a Strain Name

If you searched for “Chemdawg seeds” and ended up here, you’re in the right place. The correct spelling is Chemdog. That’s the name I’ve known this plant by since I got the cut in 1995, and it’s the name she keeps.

Chemdog is the correct spelling

You’ll see it written “Chemdawg,” “Chem Dawg” and a few other ways. Those are misspellings. The correct spelling is Chemdog, for the Chemdog 91 cut, her sister Chem D, and every Bx cross in the catalog.

There’s no such thing as Chemdog 91 seeds

Chemdog 91 is clone only. She’s one female plant, and I’ve held her since 1995. What you can buy as seed are crosses bred from her line, every one of them made with the Chemdog 91 Bx3 or Bx2 stud. If you want the plant herself, she comes as a rooted clone. If you want to hunt, the seed packs are 13 regular seeds and every one traces back to her.

We never change a name

That goes for every strain, not just mine. We don’t change the spelling. We don’t add anything to a name and we don’t take anything off of it. A strain comes in under a name, and that’s the name it goes out under.

The best example is Skunk Dawg. That cut is spelled with “Dawg,” and here it stays Skunk Dawg, right next to Chemdog spelled with an “o.” It would be easy to make them match. We don’t, because it isn’t our name to change. You’ll find her as the mother of Pole Dog, Skunk Dawg x Chemdog 91 Bx3.

Same with Headband. It was called Headband when I received it, and it still is. If you require another name added to the front, that clone might not be for you.

And the Chemdog 91 cut herself: held since 1995, never renamed.

Why it matters

A name is how you trace a plant. Change a letter, add a word, drop a number, and a few years later nobody can say which plant anybody is talking about. Keeping every name exactly as it came is part of keeping the line straight.

Common questions

Is it Chemdog or “Chemdawg”?

The correct spelling is Chemdog. “Chemdawg” is a misspelling.

Can I buy Chemdog 91 seeds?

No. Chemdog 91 is clone only. The seeds are crosses bred from her line with the Chemdog 91 Bx3 or Bx2 stud. The cut herself is sold as a rooted clone.

Why is Skunk Dawg spelled with “Dawg”?

That’s the name of that cut. We never change a strain’s spelling, in either direction.

Do you rename clones?

No. A clone keeps the exact name it came with. Headband came in as Headband and it’s still Headband.

How long have you held the Chemdog 91 cut?

Since 1995.
